Winterizing Yourself

I am having an influx in my practice of depression, stagnation and overall blahs--which is completely normal for many during this time of year.  If there is one thing I could offer is that this is the time of year to slow down, reflect, and meditate on the moment.  Winer is a time to let go of the year's strains, and prepare for the birth of a New Year full of new possibilities and change.

While you wait, consider working with winter, as Mother Earth has a way of taking charge, it's best we follow, or get out of the way...

Here are 4 ways to Enjoy this Winter:

  1. A life-changing lesson learned from Chinese Medicine is to eat by the weather—on cold days, eat warm stews, lentils and soups—drink teas.  Save cold wet foods like salads and ice-cream for extinguishing heat.
  1. Fresh, local foods recently plucked from earth contain the most energy.  Deeply-colored foods: kale, tomatoes, squash and ginger nourish blood, spleen, and tonify stomach organs.
  1. As dead leaves fall away, we may also shed unnecessary thoughts and negative outlooks, fall is preparation time—nourish with yoga, positive people and inspiration.
  1. Consider acupuncture, a virtual “tune-up” to synchronize emotions, energy and healing.
